About The Rollins

The Rollins is located at 181 North Rollins Road in Millbrae, adjacent to Millbrae BART Station, and will provide 79 new affordable apartment homes with a veterans’ preference, including 18 homes dedicated for veterans with Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers. The community is part of a larger mixed-use, transit-oriented development known as Gateway at Millbrae Station.

The Rollins onsite amenities include a community room, a laundry room, bike storage, a fitness room with equipment, and an outdoor patio with barbeque tables and chairs provided. The site also offers easy access to BART, SAMTRANS, and Caltrain, bike lanes and trails with a future connection to the Bay Trail, public gathering spaces, plazas with public art, plus inviting restaurants and retail.

Application

Eligibility

Eligibility is income restricted, as are rents, in accordance with the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program and other funding requirements. Maximum income restrictions range from $78,300 for a one-person household to $100,680 for a three-person household. All income and asset sources of prospective residents must be verified through written third-party verifications. 

The following preferences will be taken into consideration at The Rollins when selecting applicants, however, all are welcome to apply:

  • Live or Work in Millbrae

Veterans will need to provide the following documentation to receive veterans’ preference:

  • DD 214 or NGB Form 22
  • Military ID
  • Veteran’s Disability Letter (optional)

Construction began in Spring 2021 and will be completed in Summer 2022. Marketing of apartment homes will begin in early 2022. Rental housing applications will be available in Spring 2022. Fill out the pre-application and check back soon!

100% of the homes – 79 units – will be affordable apartments for rent with a veterans’ preference.

A “preference” means that veterans who apply to rent an affordable apartment will be given priority status on the property’s waiting list. They will be offered housing before other applicants.

Yes. Those veterans qualifying for a Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) voucher will be able to apply for one of 18 apartments set aside for this program. You can apply to the VASH program through the VA or qualified Veterans Service organization. If you receive a portable VASH voucher through the Housing Authority, you may be able to use it at this Community.

Yes. There will be programs and services designed for veterans such as social
activities and case management.

Studio apartments are between 424 SF and 477 SF. One‐bedroom apartments
are 613 SF each.

No. The apartments will be unfurnished; however, local community organizations will be offering furniture and other essentials to residents based on need and
availability.

A limited number of parking spaces adjacent to the building will be available to residents.

Your eligibility is based on your household income and assets, and the area
median income (AMI) for the region. See above for Household Income Limits.

Households comprised entirely of full-time students must meet special eligibility requirements to live here. As we get closer to the housing being completed, there will be an application process to establish eligibility.
